Edogawa Rampo
1894 – 1965
Edogawa Rampo's real name was Tarō Hirai.
In 1923 (Taishō 12), he published "The Two-Sen Copper Coin" in the magazine Shin Seinen (New Youth). From then on, he produced numerous works and laid the foundation for Japanese detective fiction.
His detective stories, which featured a unique worldview, and the Boy Detectives Club series—starring Akechi Kogorō and Kobayashi, the young detective—became widely beloved not only as novels but also through TV dramas and films.
Furthermore, he established the Edogawa Rampo Prize, a gateway for aspiring mystery writers, and continues to have a significant influence on Japanese mystery fiction today.
